Origin of the term punk

The English term "punk" has a derogatory meaning which often varies, applying to objects (meaning "junk" or people meaning "lazy," "despicable" or also "trash" and "scum"). It is used ironically as a description of the critical substrate or dissatisfaction containing this music. When used as own label, the "punks" (or "punks") distance themselves from the adjustment to the social roles and stereotypes. Due to the nature of this meaning, the punk has often been associated with attitudes of personal neglect, has been used as a means of expressing feelings of discomfort and hatred, and has also given way to neurotic or self-destructive behaviors.

Origins and cultural context

In the late 1960s, a stream of young people in Britain and other industrialized countries considered that the rock had gone from being a means of expression for young people, to a mere marketing tool and showcase for the grandiloquence of the musicians of that then moving the music of the common people. Punk emerged as a mockery to the rigidity of the conventions that hid forms of social and cultural oppression.

Feature and philosophy punk

Punk is the constant struggle against fear of social repercussions.

In its original nature, the punk culture has been primarily of individual freedom, which tends to create beliefs in concepts such as individualism, anti-authoritarianism, anarchism and free thought. The punk ideology often contain a critical view of the world, seeing modern societies as placing limits on humanity. This ideology is usually expressed through punk music. In the early 70's, the "punks" had a very different philosophy now, was having that idea of "There is no future" (no future, no future). That concept was pessimistic, desperate, destructive and aggressive towards society.
But now it has not been the same for thirty years but remain the same kind of punk.

* Can be summarized as "do it yourself", "have it your way" (in English "Do It Yourself")

Reject the dogmas, and not seek a single truth. Challenge and contradict everything around.
* Do not act on fashion and media manipulation besides being against consumerism.
* Think for yourself.

The punk, although in some nuances started being a bit aggressive, is consolidated by its current features in a form of social consciousness, philosophical and idealistic current and nowhere stylist.
